Flashing Runways, Black Squares , Black Headlights etc etc
If you look at any flight simulator forum your will periodically find people reporting issues with black squares or flashing runways and helpful advice to untick Dx10 preview! All these problems have the exact same cause – its a bug in the DX10 engine that when it draws a large number of something in different scenery tiles it forgets some instructions that the GPU needs. The Fixer completely fixes these issues period!
Its very hard to show screenshots of something not being faulty – but here is a picture of an aircraft on a runway that isn’t flashing!
With the Fixer any scenery and aircraft built with the FS9 SDK will appear normally. Without the fixer they will appear untextured at night and in the case of aircraft during the day also.
The picture at the top of the page shows a scene containing such legacy scenery with the fixer enabled on the left and disabled on the right.
Because the older SDK has some useful features not in the fsx equivalent many airports published for fsx still use the older sdk.
The main advantage that DX10 has over DX9 is that in DX10 there are shadows in the VC. The Fixer provides a number of improvements to the quality of these shadows particularly with the larger jet aircraft.
- Softens shadow edges
- Increases shadow resolution in larger jets
- Improves placement so shadows start close to the object casting the shadow – just look at antennas in DX9 to see what I mean here.
- Adjusts the colour of shadows to match with surfaces that face away from the sun
The Fixer can also enable shadows (externally and internally) for Legacy aircraft from generations of the simulator.
