MSFS2020 and Carrier Landings

Trying out the new Microsoft Flight simulator I spotted that a British carrier was alongside in Portsmouth harbour.

In the spirit of Microsoft Flight Simulators of the past I decided that I should attempt a landing – after all didn’t everyone land the Learjet on the carrier in FS95?

Unfortunately two Cessnas later I concluded that the ship is made of water.

But all is not lost as MSFS2020 includes an amphibian!! Here I am in an “approach” of sorts with the gear up…

This is where it went pear shaped – there are trees on the flight deck! Plus I am doing 60 knots and there is a ski jump ahead past the trees.

Sadly I couldn’t make it…

Using slew – this is where we wanted to be!

But although it looks like raised water, the trees are solid and if I exit slew – I fall down to the water below.

I don't use FSX that much. But I am very annoyed when it doesn't work properly!

    Hi Steve,

I also have been trying out MSFS2020 and so far I like it! There are a few niggles though, one being that I cannot programme and utilise my HOTAS WARTHOG THRUSTMASTER joystick. I am hopeful that these niggles will be resolved in future updates.

Using your DX10 add-on I got a very satisfactory experience flying the Learjet 45 in FSX!

Glad you are enjoying the sim. I eagerly await everyone’s input and MS’ adjustments. Then, I’m on board. Seriously, I am hoping for solid ships and helipads for some helo flying and jump-jets.
